Best Grill Pan

My favorite grill pan

I built this site to help people get more use from their grill pans.  Grill pans are great kitchen tools but are under-utilized because most people’s initial experiences led to smoke filled kitchens and pans that were impossible to clean. Grill pans are great when cooking for one or two people and are spectacular for adding sear marks to quick cooking foods.  I have the following information on this site:

  1. Tips for getting the most use from your grill pan.
  2. Lots of recipes for and videos about grill pans.
  3. Information on the different types of grill pans available and choosing one that is right for you.
  4. A nice Starter Set page with some good equipment to get you started.

It is not hard to use a grill pan if you follow some simple rules.  Learning these rules took me a while and I almost threw my pan away before I finally figured them out.  I am hoping that these pages will help shorten your learning curve and make your journey towards successful indoor grilling much smoother than mine.  There is no need for you to have a kitchen filled with smoke or end up with a pan that takes an hour to clean.  With a little planning and common sense you can be making some beautiful food with minimal hassle.

Update 12/18/14:  I am not posting here anymore and am doing most of my griddle cooking in the backyard on my Weber grills.  Here is the link where you can catch up with how I am using my Weber griddle.

Is grill pan cooking just about the grill marks or do one get a “grill flavor” as well?

Jack, it is mostly grill marks. To me nothing compares to food grilled over charcoal. This is something I turn to when lighting up a grill is not practical. To get a little closer to “grill flavor” you can always add some smoked paprika to the food before grilling in the pan. You could also marinate with a little liquid smoke.

I do most of my grilling outside during the summer. Once the weather turns nasty I’ll fire the grill pans back up!
